  6.     Last month I looked at products from PaperDirect. I also touched
  7.     briefly on templates. Since then, I have worked with several more
  8.     template packages, other items, and worked with a new product line.
  9.  
  10.     PaperDirect, to paraphrase a Martin Paint commercial "Ain't just
  11.     paper!" They have a product called 'Files on the Move,' that is like
  12.     a briefcase but designed to carry hanging file folders. In addition
  13.     they have portfolios, presentation binders, 3-ring binders
  14.     with/without storage sleeve, overhead transparency projector,
  15.     acrylic stands for 8 1/2 x 11 paper, and much more.

  17.     This month I worked with their Desktop ColorFoil product. This adds
  18.     color to ANY paper (32lb or less suggested) that is printed through
  19.     your laser printer. ColorFoil comes in rolls, sheets, and a special
  20.     Holiday assortment. Choose from any of 16 colors, solids to glitter.
  21.     This product is easy for anyone to use. You do not need
  22.     instructions. There are basically 3 steps. First, you take a sheet
  23.     that is already printed. Second, you apply the ColorFoil to the area
  24.     you wish colorized. Third, you run the page through you printer and
  25.     remove the foil. You get beautiful color that stands out and gets
  26.     noticed, all at a reasonable price.

  28.     With all the paper products in the catalog, it would be almost
  29.     impossible to format you text to fit into these pages. It can be
  30.     done, but it is a painstaking task, that can take hours and much
  31.     wasted paper. PaperDirect has an easy solution for this,
  32.     PaperTemplates Software. Each product comes with over 160 templates
  33.     to cover almost every paper product in their catalog. The software
  34.     is available for Macintosh, DOS and Windows. With the holiday season
  35.     fast approaching, they also have a Holiday PaperTemplates package
  36.     (which also contains fonts and clipart). This has over 60 templates
  37.     for their whole holiday line, and is available on the same three
  38.     platforms. You can print custom laser greeting cards, holiday
  39.     desktop design paper, laser miniCards and Postcards, holiday labels,
  40.     holiday brochures, and many more products. All easily done, using
  41.     the above Holiday PaperTemplates package.

  43.     When you use CorelDraw!, PageMaker, QuarkXpress or Microsoft
  44.     Publisher templates, you get true graphic representation on screen
  45.     of the selected product. When using with a word processor, like Word
  46.     or WordPerfect, you have the document formatted to specifications,
  47.     but you do not see the visual image of the page. I prefer to do my
  48.     letters in Word, and business cards, brochures, etc., using MS
  49.     Publisher. Whichever way you choose to work these products will work
  50.     fine.

  52.     An associate of mine uses CorelDraw!, and purchased the template
  53.     package for it. I found that, when entering information especially
  54.     in brochures where you have to enter text vertically, Corel does not
  55.     allow you the freedom to do it horizontally. However, as an MS
  56.     Publisher user, I found that using these templates, that Publisher
  57.     allows you to enter the text in a horizontal box, and then the
  58.     program places it in the vertical position. This is true of both
  59.     version 1.0 and 2.0 of MS Publisher. I was more pleased with this
  60.     way of working.

  62.     I worked with both the regular and holiday template packages in MS
  63.     Publisher. Doing labels, business cards, brochures, certificates,
  64.     etc., were a snap. When using Publisher, as stated, you see a visual
  65.     page image on screen. When you are ready to print you must select
  66.     'Ignore Background' from the menu. If you do not it will print the
  67.     image also. I was experimenting with the Holly Labels for Christmas.
  68.     I did not select the above option, and had a plain white sheet of
  69.     paper in the printer. It printed the holly design along with the
  70.     names and addresses. This is good if you want to check formatting,
  71.     and true appearance, without using the actual labels or other
  72.     product. What I also did was make a photostat of the page I want to
  73.     use, and then use it in the printer to see the effect.

  79.     The LaserSign System by Paper Direct, is a complete sign creation
  80.     package for your laser printer. Signs are available in a variety of

  92.     Telephone, and more). Of course it includes the templates for all
  93.     the available sign sizes.
